The New TABE 13&14 forms include several enhancements for adult education programs:

UPDATED, UNIVERSALLY DESIGNED TEST ITEMS

  • All TABE 13&14 items have been developed to meet Universal Design requirements, with additional consideration given to accessibility, clarity, equity, and appropriateness for adult learners. All items have been reviewed, edited, and approved by panels of adult educators, ensuring items are situated in adult-relevant content.
  • Reading 13&14 includes multiple-choice and evidence-based selected-response item types.
  • Mathematics 13&14 includes multiple-choice and gridded-response item types.
  • Language 13&14 includes multiple-choice item types only.

SHORTER, FASTER TESTS FOR STUDENTS

  • TABE 13&14 reduces the overall reading load for students, ensuring they will finish the test faster.
  • In addition, the Reading 13&14 subtest contains shorter passages to provide a quicker testing process for students.

EASIER TEST ADMINISTRATION FOR EXAMINERS

  • TABE 13&14 introduces a universal answer document for levels E, M, D, and A. This will allow the same answer document to be used with any of these levels, which reduces the administrative burden on test examiners and makes the management and scanning of answer documents easier.
  • TABE 13&14 features consistent test administration times across levels and sessions for each subtest, simplifying test delivery and making it easier to plan testing schedules.

ENHANCED ONLINE TESTING EXPERIENCE

  • In the online presentation, Reading 13&14 items use scrolling instead of page-turning, so all item content is presented on one screen.

NEW ONLINE CALCULATOR

  • The Math 13&14 subtest will use the DESMOS calculator rather than the DRC INSIGHT calculator used in the 11&12 forms. DESMOS is a freely available online-based calculator that is widely used in classrooms across the country.
